Help Nepal Stand Again

UPDATE – “More than 4,600 people dead. Over 9,000 injured. Eight million affected across Nepal. One million children urgently in need of help.” –

Recently, on April 25, Nepal was hit by a 7.8 earthquake that devastated a majority of the country. Over 2,200 lives have been lost so far, and those who have been fortunate to survive are now homeless and are forced to live in the rubles of the destruction. Nepal was called in a state of emergency quickly after the earthquake and the country is now frantically trying to care for its people.

Medical attention is needed. Food is needed. Shelter and support are all needed.

As an organization that represents Nepal and its culture at Truman State University, we, Namaste Nepal, feel a great need to take actions at a time like this. We have started collecting donations and creating fundraisers in the upcoming week to support our country and the people of Nepal. Many of us have family and friends who have been affected, and we are certain that pushing for this cause is the greatest way we, as Nepalese, Namaste Nepal club members, and members of the Truman community, can support Nepal.

This is where you come in. We ask that you support us in our actions to support this cause. Attending our events, educating those on this tragedy, and helping by donating to our mission is the first step you can take to help rebuild what has been greatly lost.

If you choose to donate and are within Truman campus, we have donation boxes located in Center for International Students (BH 129) and Multicultural Affairs Center (Adair House) from 9 to 4 pm where you can drop your cash or check donation. Please make your checks payable to Namaste Nepal. Checks and cash will maximize our donation amount due to the online fee put on by third parties; however, if someone is not at Truman they can go to the following website and donate a small donation will make a huge impact in this time of crisis.

We greatly appreciate any support you can give us and hope that you understand why we are so persistent on aiding Nepal and the victims. For those of you who have been keeping Nepal in your prayers and donating to our cause, we greatly appreciate all the help you have given and thank you for your contributions.
